Meridian Fire Special Operations Team Assists with Swiftwater Rescue in Kuna
MERIDIAN, Idaho – Yesterday, 7/10/26, at approximately 7:40 p.m., the Meridian Fire Department responded with specialized swiftwater rescue resources to assist Kuna Fire & Rescue with a water rescue along Indian Creek in Kuna.
Meridian Fire responded with Battalion 31, Ladder 31, and Tech 31 after reports of a swimmer who had become foot-entrapped in the creek. Kuna Fire & Rescue personnel arrived first and immediately began establishing rescue operations, including deploying a rescue swimmer into the water.
Members of the Meridian Fire Department’s Special Operations Team arrived shortly thereafter and integrated into the ongoing rescue effort. Working alongside Kuna Fire & Rescue, crews safely freed the individual and brought them to shore using specialized swiftwater rescue techniques. The victim was not injured.
This successful rescue highlights the importance of regional partnerships and specialized training. Meridian Fire Department recently certified 12 firefighters in swiftwater rescue, expanding the department’s ability to respond to water emergencies throughout the Treasure Valley.
The Meridian Fire Department extends its appreciation to all responding partner agencies, including Kuna Fire & Rescue, Boise Fire Department Dive Team, Ada County Sheriff’s Office, and Ada County Paramedics, for their teamwork and coordinated response.
As temperatures continue to bring people to Idaho’s rivers and waterways, the Meridian Fire Department reminds the public to always wear a properly fitted life jacket while recreating on the water. Even experienced swimmers can encounter strong currents, hidden hazards, and changing water conditions. Wearing a life jacket can save your life.
