Boise Firefighters Protect Home During Foothills Wildfire
July 7, 2026
While fighting a rapidly spreading wildfire in the Boise Foothills on July 6, 2026, Boise Fire Department crews responded to reports of a structure fire on Mountain Cove Road.
The wildfire had quickly spread from the Crestline Trailhead area toward the homes in that area, prompting an immediate response from firefighters. When crews arrived, they found that the home itself had not caught fire, but flames had ignited the trees surrounding the property, putting the residence and its occupant in immediate danger.
Firefighters acted quickly to protect the home while getting the resident to safety. Working in intense heat and rapidly changing fire and wind conditions, crews aggressively defended the structure, preventing the flames from spreading from the surrounding vegetation to the home.
During the operation, Engine 6 sustained heat damage while protecting the property. The extreme temperatures warped several lights, mirrors, and decals. Fortunately, the damage was cosmetic, and the apparatus remains fully operational and available for service.
The actions of Boise Fire crews on Mountain Cove Road highlight the dedication and professionalism firefighters demonstrate every day. Faced with dangerous conditions, they placed themselves between the fire and the community they serve, working tirelessly to protect lives and property.
“This incident is a powerful reminder of the commitment our firefighters bring to every emergency,” said Boise Fire Chief Hummel. “Their quick actions, courage, and teamwork helped save a home and ensured the resident made it to safety. We are incredibly proud of the men and women who continue to put themselves in harm’s way to protect the citizens of Boise.”
As wildfire season continues, Boise Fire reminds residents to remain vigilant, stay informed about fire conditions, and be prepared to evacuate if directed by emergency officials. This is an excellent time to review the City of Boise’s “ Ready Set Go!” Notifications. This program outlines the steps community members need to take to be prepared and respond to an emergency.
We are providing an opportunity for the media to interview Captain Joe Lunghofer, and Captain Shane Nelson, as well as get video of Engine 6, at 2:30 p.m. at Station 6 today.
