ACHD Commissioners Approve Ballot Measure for Continuation of Vehicle Registration Fee
ADA COUNTY — The Ada County Highway District Board of Commissioners has unanimously approved ballot language for a continuation of the Vehicle Registration Fee (VRF). The measure will be placed on the November 2026 general election ballot, giving Ada County voters the opportunity to decide whether to continue the local funding source that supports transportation improvements throughout the county.
The current VRF is scheduled to sunset in 2028. If approved by voters, the measure would continue the fee at its current rates, with no increases. These funds support road and bridge repair, congestion relief, and safe routes to school for Ada County residents. At its current level, the VRF generates approximately $14 million annually for local transportation improvements.
“The Vehicle Registration Fee has helped deliver meaningful transportation improvements across Ada County for decades,” said ACHD Commission President Miranda Gold. “Now it’s up to the voters to decide whether they would like that investment to continue.”
The Vehicle Registration Fee was first approved by voters in 1990. Voters renewed the program in 2008. Revenue generated through the VRF has funded a wide range of transportation improvements, including intersection upgrades, congestion relief projects, neighborhood safety enhancements, and safe routes to school improvements. Because the funding is generated locally, every dollar stays in Ada County to address local transportation needs and priorities.
