Northwest Dental Benefits is a dental insurance company based in northern Idaho.
The company, founded in 2018 by Dr. Kory Wilson, a practicing dentist, is built on the premise of making insurance more straightforward to understand and navigate. Northwest’s copay-based system helps patients immediately know their actual cost for different procedures up front, in contrast to the percentage-based system used by many providers.
Northwest Dental mainly operated in northern Idaho before hiring an account executive in Boise two years ago to grow the company’s service area. The company, which is nearing 10,000 customers signed on, has never lost a customer—a point Wilson prides himself on.
“As a dentist, I was frustrated with the state of the insurance industry and felt like we weren’t able to provide our patients with procedures and care. That was the reason that we went to dental school to become dentists,” he said. “Our vision is to create a different kind of dental insurance that serves patients and dentists in Idaho in a better way.”
