CITY OF BOISE TO CELEBRATE 25 YEARS OF OPEN SPACE CONSERVATION ON NATIONAL PUBLIC LANDS DAY
BOISE – This year marks the 25th anniversary of Boise’s first Foothills Levy, which was approved by 59% of Boise voters on May 22, 2001. With a two-year, $10 million dollar commitment, Boiseans showed tremendous support for protecting open space in the Boise Foothills for generations to come. It’s a legacy that continues to be shaped today.
To celebrate this landmark vote and a quarter of a century of land conservation, the City of Boise invites the community to attend Foothills Family Day on Saturday, September 26, at the Jim Hall Foothills Learning Center located at 3188 Sunset Peak Road. It will be a great way to mark National Public Lands Day in the City of Trees!
Join us from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for free, family-friendly fun with nature crafts, a look back at Boise’s open space history, and refreshments. Register for a guided tour that explores the history of Boise’s open space preservation efforts, current preservation work in action, and ways to support the future of the foothills. Spots on the guided tours, which will be offered at two times, are limited. Registration is available on a first come, first served basis and links to sign up are included below.
Plus, calling all Boise bird lovers! Dress up like your favorite bird to participate in a bird-themed costume contest we’re calling “Best in Nest.”

The event on Saturday, September 26 is free and open to all ages, with pre-registration encouraged via this online form so we know how many to expect as we celebrate National Public Lands Day and the 25th anniversary of Boise’s first Foothills Levy.
Please plan ahead as parking at the Foothills Learning Center (FLC) is limited. Additional parking is available at the nearby Grove Trailhead located off Sunset Peak Road. Carpooling, walking, or biking via the accessible Grove Loop Trail or all-weather Owl’s Roost Trail is recommended. ADA parking is available on site with a mixed material, all-weather pathway providing access to the FLC building and backyard.
