The Boise Airport will soon have a new leader, pending Boise City Council approval.
Boise Mayor Lauren McLean announced Beth Sumner as the new Boise Airport director in a news release Monday.
Sumner has worked as the deputy director of engineering and planning at the airport since 2023, where she helped direct the engineering and planning for BOI’s $1.4 billion upgrade program. According to a news release, Sumner also “leads the airport’s federal funding strategy, contributing to more than $100 million in competitive and discretionary awards, and represents the capital program on the Airport Airline Affairs Committee.”
Prior to that position, Sumner was a senior executive for installation operations at Gowen Field and served as deputy director of the Idaho Air National Guard’s 124th Fighter Wing.
Sumner graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy with a bachelor’s degree in engineering sciences, then earned her Master of Science in materials science and engineering from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. She served 26 years in the U.S. Air Force and Air National Guard and was deployed overseas three times.
“I’m honored and excited to serve as the next Boise Airport director and grateful to Mayor McLean for her confidence in me,” Sumner said in a news release. “As Boise and the surrounding region continue to grow, I look forward to building on the airport’s strong foundation and working alongside our talented team, fellow city leaders, and community partners to support the economic vitality of Boise and the Treasure Valley.”
“Beth has demonstrated an unmatched commitment to the growth of Boise’s Airport, leading important projects as we undergo an incredible expansion,” McLean said. “I look forward to her insights and leadership for years to come.”
Boise City Council will vote to confirm the appointment during its meeting on November 10.
Sumner takes over for Rebecca Hupp, who retired from the position after 14 years in June.
