Next Tuesday evening, August 4th, families, friends, and neighbors will gather at block parties across our city to celebrate National Night Out, one of my favorite events of the year in Boise.
This nationwide event brings communities together to get to know their neighbors and connect with the police officers, firefighters, emergency responders, and other public safety professionals who serve our neighborhoods every day. These free, family-friendly gatherings often feature music, games, activities for kids, and opportunities to build stronger relationships with the people who help keep our community safe.
I love this event because it reminds us that connection doesn’t happen by accident; it’s something we build together. It happens in the simple moments—neighbors meeting for the first time, kids playing together, and families getting to know the people who help care for our community. When we know one another and look out for each other, we create safer, more welcoming neighborhoods where everyone belongs.
These celebrations wouldn’t be possible without the dedicated work of City of Boise employees and neighborhood volunteers, who put in countless hours behind the scenes to make each neighborhood gathering welcoming, meaningful, and fun. Their commitment reflects the very heart of Boise—people coming together to support one another, celebrate our people, and build Lasting connections.
