Summer is finally here and if you are like my family, you are already making plans to float the Boise River. This treasured summer pastime for residents and visitors alike is a fun way to stay cool and experience the beauty of Boise.
While the Boise River is busy with floaters, it is important to stay safe on the water. River conditions can change quickly, and even experienced floaters should plan ahead and stay alert. Before heading out, check river and weather conditions, wear a properly fitted life jacket (it’s required by state law for anyone age 14 and under), wear sunscreen, bring plenty of drinking water, and make sure your raft, tube or paddleboard is in good condition. Never tie rafts or tubes together – and be prepared to paddle!
Boise Fire and Parks & Recreation work closely with our county partners to help us all have a safe and fun float season. You can learn more about how to prepare for your river trip by visiting the official Float the Boise website. Keep in mind, shuttles between Ann Morrison Park and Barber Park—where the river put-in is located—are available through Labor Day, along with float rentals from a licensed vendor.
