The Garden City Police Department put out a warning that they have been made aware of an electronic pickpocketing crime that took place at Fred Meyer in Garden City.
According to the release, “suspects were able to obtain the embedded data from the victims’ debit/credit card and then shortly after make an ATM withdrawal, prior to the card being cancelled.”
The suspect(s) came in “very close proximity” to the victims, claiming they had dropped something as they approached.
Then the suspect followed the victims into a parking lot and began accosting them, at which time Garden City PD says their financial cards were stolen.
CBS2 reports Garden City PD asks all to remain vigilant and aware of your surroundings, especially while using financial cards.
They also advised that crimes like these are typically conducted by ‘crews’ who travel throughout the United States.
