A Democrat is running in all 35 Idaho legislative districts

This year, there is at least one Democratic candidate in all 35 legislative districts in Idaho.

Jaclyn Kettler, a political scientist at Boise State University, said it is important to have contested elections because it helps keep our elected officials more accountable through conversations about what the incumbent has done or has not done.

The Idaho Capital Sun reports Kettler said a fuller field of candidates may also give Idahoans insights in how the state has changed since legislative and congressional districts were redrawn following the 2020 census.

Republicans have held a supermajority in both chambers of the Idaho Legislature since the 1992 general election.

Idaho Democratic Chairwoman Lauren Necochea said these Democratic candidates are running because they cannot accept the loss of our reproductive freedoms and the exodus of doctors from our state, they cannot accept relentless attacks on our libraries, and they will not accept the selling out of our public schools to costly voucher schemes.
