First wave of Idaho Air National Guard members return home from deployment

The first wave of Idaho Air National Guard members returned from their mission in Southwest Asia over the weekend.

More than 120 members of the Idaho Air National Guard returned home to Gowen Field after supporting overseas contingency missions in Southwest Asia.

However, this special homecoming was handled a bit differently because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

CBS 2 News reports, normally, there’d be a hangar full of signs and people, but due to the pandemic, visitors stayed in their cars, had their temperatures taken, and were called up one at a time.

Despite being deployed during the pandemic, members of the guard said everything went smoothly.

The return marks only a portion of the 400 members of the unit. The others will continue to deploy throughout the summer and provide close air support before returning.
