Idaho’s new claims for unemployment decline for the ninth week

New claims for unemployment in the Gem state are down by nine percent.

The Idaho Department of Labor says 4,924 new claims were filed from June 28 to July 4, that’s almost 500 fewer claims than the previous week.

CBS2 reports this marks the ninth consecutive week of declines.

The department says it paid out $35.7 million during the last week of June, down from $44.7 million for the week of June 21.

Idahoans have filed over 167,000 initial claims in the past 16 weeks, since the COVID-19 state of emergency declaration, that’s 2.9 times the total number of initial claims in all of 2019, and 70% of those claims were filed in the first six weeks after the declaration.
