Nampa irrigation season set to begin April 1st

The City of Nampa expects its residents to have irrigation water at full pressure by mid-April.

Nampa announced Friday it will begin its irrigation season April 1, and customers can expect full pressure by mid-April after crews have tested lines, flushed the system, and brought ditch pumps on line.

Crews will work to ensure the water lines are functioning properly and may need to temporarily shut down a line for repair. Temporary closures may interrupt irrigation service for customers.

The City of Nampa receives the majority of its irrigation water from canals and ditches supplied from mountain reservoirs like Arrow Rock, Lucky Peak, and Anderson Ranch. Pumps draw water from the canals and ditches to provide pressurized service to customers. The length of the irrigation season is dependent on water in the reservoirs and canals.

Irrigation water is a necessary and critical resource to farmers, homeowners, and businesses in the community.

The city asks Nampa residents to check the programming of their sprinkler control box to ensure they are not unknowingly over-watering.

Nampa Meridian Irrigation District plans to release water into the canal systems April 6, Pioneer Irrigation District on April 11, and Boise-Kuna Irrigation District’s dates are still to be determined.
