Star (670 KBOI News) – For the fourth time in a month, Ada County deputies are looking for a swimmer who went into the Boise River in Star.

The 19-year old man and two other people jumped into the river near the Star Road bridge Wednesday evening, but then he went under and disappeared.

Ada County spokeswoman Andrea Dearden says with the water flowing at over 5,000 cubic feet per second (CFS), it’s nowhere safe enough for swimming, floating or fishing.

“With the water so high, moving so quickly, and so cold, when people jump in, they’re taken by surprise, it can overwhelm you very, very quickly,” said Dearden.  “It sounds like that may be what happened with the swimmers in Star, when three people go in, and one of those didn’t come back out.”

Dearden says it’s too dangerous to even put in a dive team to search for the missing man…they’re having to search the river from the air.
