Random Thoughts of a News and Sports Junkie

*** Please note, this is not your usual article but instead, a collection of thoughts.  I don’t have a great deal to say about any one topic, but I do have a little something to say about many things.

— My wife and I watched Wonder Woman over the weekend.  It’s a terrific movie, and Gal Gadot is perfectly cast as Wonder Woman.  Seriously, it’s a super hero movie worth watching, even for people who are not usually into that kind of thing.  Among the things I really liked about the film:  They never refer to her as “Wonder Woman,” she never twirls around to appear suddenly in her super hero outfit, and they actually told a great background story about the lead character.  DC has been getting smoked by Marvel for a few years, and it’s nice to see them get it right!  By the way, “Justice League” is coming to theatres in November and had better not suck.

— I wish I still had a motorcycle, but maybe it’s for the best.  I used to own one when I was in college (back in the day) and would use it to zip thru traffic in Northern California on way to class and work.  Gas mileage was good, the insurance was cheap, and I bought the motorcycle outright for less than 500 dollars.  Today, I consider myself lucky to never have been in an accident riding that motorcycle.  One thing has not changed, people still don’t pay attention to motorcycles on the road.  IDT says if you ride a motorcycle (as opposed to traveling by car), you are several times more likely to be in an accident, and WAY more likely to die in a crash.  Why you would ever ride without a helmet is baffling to me, but I respect your decision to ride without.

— Vacation:  It’s been awhile since I took time off.  My boys are looking forward to another camping trip with Dad, but we have yet to nail down a place to go.  I hear Red Fish Lake is one of those spots you have to visit, and we have yet to do that.  Friends also say if you like to fish, CJ Strike is a good spot.  I’m pretty sure we will stay away from rivers, considering how runoff has those puppies raging right now.

— I have a high school baseball player, and so Summer and Baseball usually go hand in hand for my family.  We schedule doctors appointments, family visits, and meals around baseball.  I know many of you are also baseball or soccer or softball or whatever the sport is families like we are.  I invested in a big straw hat and sunscreen this year.  No sunburns for me!  I am, however, already getting tired of ballpark hotdogs for dinner.  This could be a bad sign.
