Paul J Unplugged

People are always talking about how they can’t get along without their cellphones, or the Internet, or television. Recently I took a trip to Playa Del Carman, Mexico. When we arrived, we discovered that the only television was in Spanish, and the sports consisted of soccer teams we had never heard about, and had no idea who they were.

There went the television, off for the remaining eight days. My cellphone didn’t work either, so it was tucked away in my luggage for the rest of the trip. I had brought along my IPad, but the only internet consisted basically of Twitter. Put that away too.

The funniest thing happened, we talked more, and really did not miss the electronic crutches we had come to rely upon for entertainment. After a couple of days, we didn’t miss the things we can never leave home without.

Trust me, it can be done, and it is easy, and liberating. I have been home for a few weeks now, and use those crutches far less.
