TESTIFY!

This past week I was called upon to testify before the Ways and Means Committee at the Idaho Legislature. I have been in News and Sports in Boise for nearly 50 years, but seldom have I traveled to the Capitol. This was my second time being in front of committee in the past four years.

The previous time was when I was appointed to the Idaho State Racing Commission. I had to be confirmed by the committee and it was all warm and fuzzy with softball questions and  a lot of well wishes. This time was much harder with tough questions by senators who were not favoring my point of view. I was intrigued by their lines of questioning. It was almost like being on trial.

Most people never visit the Statehouse during the legislature, and many Idahoans have never been inside the impressive building. I think citizens of this great state should make it a point to visit during the legislature and watch their senators and representatives at work. If you live in the Boise Area and don't take advantage of the opportunity you are missing a great spectacle.

Walking the halls of the Statehouse, I found out where the old news guys from Boise have gone. They are working for Legislators, are lobbyists or flack men for industry and government. If you do decide to visit, watch that parking meter. I got a parking ticket, moved my car further away and got another parking ticket for being in my non parking meter spot for more than two hours.
