Idaho Transportation Department Worker Speaks Out On River Rescue

An Idaho Transportation Department worker is speaking out after he helped rescue a woman from a sinking truck in November.

Dana Graves says he noticed a truck in an icy river near Kooskia and a couple trying to save someone inside.

Graves says “there was ice floating down the river and it was snowing that particular evening when this took place. That’s the reason they left the road and ended up down the embankment and into the river.”

Graves jumped in to help.

“Her legs were entangled in such a way that it was working against me when I was pulling on her, so I had to reposition her feet and legs out and into the river through the broken driver’s window.”

Graves was able to get the woman out and carry her to shore.

He says he regrets never getting the couple’s name or the woman’s name.

He says he would love to speak with them again.

But when it comes to if Graves considers himself a hero or not….Graves says he just did what any person would’ve done.
