The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year

The Boise State Broncos left us all with a tremendous Christmas present this year, a trip to the Fiesta Bowl. The Broncos, with the exception of last year have had a great run winning bowl games. Three straight Las Vegas Bowl wins over Pac-12 members Utah, Arizona State and Washington were great, but the Bronco season was over before Christmas. There is something about being in Glendale, Arizona for the third time that is truly exciting.

Boise State is 2-0 in the Fiesta Bowl with their historic win over Oklahoma and their exciting victory over Texas Christian. Both games featured trick plays and great national attention for BSU. This year, after a 3-2 start, Boise State rallied to win eight straight games and a spot in the big game. Yesterday I stood in line to pick up my game tickets for friends and family, later in the day my press credentials were approved and hotel reservations made.

Last night I watched the replay of the 2007 Fiesta Bowl, tonight probably the 2010 model will be on my television. Sunday December 28th and Monday December 29th will see a steady caravan of cars down highway 93 through Nevada with a quick stop of Las Vegas to put a few dollars on BSU. Some will take the freeway through Utah for the 1,000 mile trip. It begets a camaraderie that is amazing to see. The game serves basically as a family reunion for my wife’s family, great fun in the sun.

It is great to watch the game on TV and save some money, but we are talking lifetime memories here. Hope to see you all in Arizona in a few days, perhaps to celebrate another win. It really doesn’t matter (right). The national stage is the wonderful thing. Thanks coaches and players for another marvelous ride.
