Row Row Row The Boat

My wife Tamara and I recently celebrated our 27th wedding anniversary. A lot has happened over the years, and we had a lot of good laughs at dinner the other night. We got married the night before the Boise State=Nevada football game back in 1987 in a casino in Reno, Nevada. I was 20 years older than Tam and I am sure that nobody thought we would make it to basketball season. We fooled them all.

In looking back at the pictures of our wedding, featuring some very prominent Boise media types we noticed that we were the only ones still married to our current partners. The longest shot had won the race. It is hard to reason why some people stay married and some don’t. I think that mutual respect is a necessary ingredient once the initial passion fades. We basically have supported each other every step of the way , We have each other’s back, and encourage a new change in direction, if one is needed.

We call our marriage rowing the boat, and we both have had our oars in the water, rowing in the same direction. Some folks make marriage way too hard, they hassle and fight over every little thing until they just give up. I am looking forward to many more years with Tamara, and we fooled them, we made it way past basketball season.
