Federal labor data shows employers added 29,000 jobs in September, while the unemployment rate rose to 4.2%. Wage growth also eased, pointing to a labor market that has lost some of its earlier momentum.

Housing remains another challenge for consumers. Mortgage data shows the average rate on a 30-year fixed loan climbed to 7.28%, increasing monthly costs for buyers and keeping affordability under pressure.

Speaking about the strikes on Iran’s nuclear program, Trump said the facilities had a role beyond nuclear activity. CNN reported that he did not provide evidence supporting the drug-related claim or specify what type of drugs he was referring to.

The facilities at Fordow, Natanz and Isfahan have long been identified publicly as major parts of Iran’s nuclear infrastructure. International monitoring and U.S. government assessments have focused on their uranium enrichment, research, and related nuclear activities.

Reuters reported that the dispute centers on guidance issued by the Department of Homeland Security in July 2025. The policy treats immigrants who entered the United States illegally as applicants for admission, making them subject to mandatory detention without a bond hearing during removal proceedings. Those proceedings can sometimes last months or years.

The Supreme Court took up the administration’s appeal after the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled against the policy. Other federal appellate courts have also rejected the administration’s interpretation of immigration law.

The administration argues that its approach follows federal law as Congress intended. Attorneys challenging the policy argue that immigrants already living inside the United States should remain eligible for bond hearings.

The case will be heard during the Supreme Court term beginning in October 2026 and will address how federal detention rules apply during deportation proceedings.

CNN reported on the rapidly changing legal battle surrounding Pike, the only woman on Tennessee’s death row. A federal appeals court initially stayed the execution while considering a challenge connected to her case. The U.S. Supreme Court later lifted that stay, allowing Tennessee to move forward.

State officials then administered the lethal injection protocol, but Pike did not die. The Tennessee Department of Correction later confirmed that she had been transported to an off-site medical facility after officials completed the procedures permitted under the state’s protocol.

The Strait of Hormuz remains part of those discussions. Iranian officials have linked reopening the strategic waterway to an agreement, while continued regional tensions have disrupted energy supplies and contributed to higher oil prices.

CBS News reports that around 100,000 customers across the region were without electricity Saturday as the slow-moving storm intensified. In Brooklyn, a 56-year-old man was killed after being struck by a falling tree. In Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey, emergency crews rescued nine adults and a dog from flooded motel rooms.

Coastal communities have seen some of the most serious conditions. Streets flooded in parts of New Jersey and Long Island, while Ocean City, Maryland, experienced heavy surf and beach erosion. Wind gusts above 70 mph were recorded in some areas.

The storm has also affected air travel and major events. Hundreds of flights were canceled or delayed, while concerts, festivals, and sporting events were called off or rescheduled.

Forecasters said the system could remain near the coast through Monday, extending the risk of flooding, strong winds and dangerous surf.
