An Idaho Transportation Department contractor is beginning to remove approximately 1,000 potentially hazardous trees along a ten-mile stretch of State Highway 55 north of Banks.
The removal of dying and diseased trees will improve errant driver safety recovery zones, wildlife visibility and fire protection widths.
The six-week tree removal project will reduce traffic to a single lane in the direct area where work is being done.
No work will be conducted on weekends.
Drivers should anticipate delays and are encouraged to plan their travel accordingly.
The project is scheduled for completion by this fall.
ITD would like to remind the public that multiple projects are currently underway on SH-55, and travelers should check their route at 511.idaho.gov before heading out.
