Caldwell downtown parking is still an issue

Caldwell’s new downtown parking meters continue to be a sore spot for area business owners, several of whom were met with cheers and applause, at a Caldwell City Council meeting, when they spoke against the meters during public comment.

The Idaho Press reports one business owner said, this has created a horrible division in our downtown business district, which has caused anger, frustration and confusion.

The parking meters charge patrons $1 per hour and began being enforced in mid-May.

Some business owners have said the meters dissuade customers from coming to their stores because of the added inconvenience of paying for parking.

A special meeting to address the parking issue is scheduled for Monday, Aug. 26.
