DEA hosts anonymous prescription drug drop-off in Boise

CBS2 reports the Drug Enforcement Administration is hosting an anonymous prescription drop-off to encourage people to get rid of unused drugs.

The drop-off will be at the Idaho Office of Drug Policy on 92 S. Cole Rd. in Boise from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Oct. 23. Officials will be anonymously collecting prescription and over-the-counter drugs as well as all e-cigarette devices.

“Too often, unused prescription drugs find their way into the wrong hands,” said Stephanie Maher, state director of the Idaho Office of Drug Policy. “These events help prevent the misuse of prescription drugs and make a positive difference in our communities.”

Over 60,000 Idahoans age 12 and older misused prescription pain relievers, according to a national survey. Nearly 23 percent of high school seniors said they’ve used drugs without following a doctor’s prescription, and 41 percent of those people said they got drugs from a friend or family member.
