Boise City Council members must be elected by geographic districts

Beginning this year, Boise City Council elections will look different for Boise voters.

Idaho lawmakers passed a bill requiring that all cities with a population greater than 100,000 must elect their city council members by geographic districts.

On November 2nd, eligible Boise voters will vote for City Council seats in District 1 located in West Boise; District 3 located in Northwest and North Boise; and District 5 located in the East End, downtown Boise and portions of the Boise Bench.

The three Boise City Council district seats will be up for election for two year terms, instead of the standard four year terms.

In 2023, all six council districts will be up for election using a map that will be updated using 2020 census data.

Residents can only vote the City Council seat in their district.
