San Diego State outlasts Boise State in Overtime 78-66

Boise State overcame a 17-point deficit to force overtime, but ran out of steam in the extra period at No. 22 San Diego State, suffering a 78-66 loss. RayJ Dennis hit a three-pointer with 9.3 seconds left to send the game to overtime, where the Aztecs outscored the Broncos 15-3.

Derrick Alston, Jr. led all scorers with a season-high 29 points. Alston scored Boise State’s first 11 points of the second half, in less than four minutes, to kickstart the Broncos (18-5, 14-4 MW), who scored 46 points in the period after being held to a season-low 17 in the first half.
San Diego State (18-4, 12-3 MW) still led by 15 with 10 minutes left in regulation, when Emmanuel Akot heated up. Akot drilled three three-pointers to key a 14-0 Boise State run in a span of just two minutes and 18 seconds.
The Aztec lead buoyed between one and three for the next five minutes, before Alston buried his sixth triple of the night to tie the game with 1:42 left. Again San Diego State led by three when Dennis delivered from deep.
Matt Mitchell led San Diego State with 24 points. Mitchell scored his team’s final seven points of regulation and hit a pull-up jumper to start overtime. After Jordan Schakel hit his only three-pointer of the game on the Aztecs’ second possession of overtime, Mitchell scored again to give the home team the first seven points of the period.
Devonaire Doutrive joined Alston in double figures for the Broncos with 10 points.
Boise State committed a season-high 16 turnovers, with 12 coming in a first half that saw San Diego State take a 29-17 lead into the locker room.
