Boise City Council Adds New Rules For Bike Bars

If you have spent anytime around the downtown area on a Friday or Saturday night – you have seen them being pedaled down the street…Bike Bars.

Usually the people pedaling the bike bars have a beer in hand – and might even be heard singing – accompanied by loud music as they roll down the street. They can certainly be fun for those on board, but also annoying to those around them, not just due to the noise but also because they cause traffic issues due to how slow they are.

But – the city of Boise has approved new rules that will severely restrict the bike bars. Open containers, are now prohibited. The music must remain below 62 decibels. AND the bars no longer may operate during rush hour downtown (between 4:30 and 6:30 p.m. on weekdays) or operate past 10:30 p.m. any day of the week.

The ordinance passed unanimously Tuesday and takes effect immediately.
