Volunteers to pick trash out of Boise River for sponsored event Saturday

A large group of volunteers will be cleaning the Boise River Saturday clearing and packing out trash.

Liz Paul, the event coordinator, reached out to CBS2 to inform us the trash pick up is a part of the “Make It Pretty River Clean Up” sponsored by the Boise River Enhancement Network and Odell Brewing.

The volunteers are meeting at 9 a.m. at Pamela Baker Park in Eagle, Star River Walk Park in Star, the parking lot of Pioneer Federal Credit Union Middleton and Whittenberger Park in Caldwell to pick up supplies and then fan out to pick up trash at public parks, on the Greenbelt and at Idaho Fish and Game access sites.

According to Paul, COVID-19 safety protocols will be followed; some volunteers will pick up trash independently.

“We’re excited to be able to safely hold our event. Everyone loves getting rid of the trash that accumulates along the Boise River, and there’s been an increase with all the stay-close-to-home use the river’s been getting,” Paul said.

Odell Brewing, based in Fort Collins, Colorado, is sponsoring river clean ups in 15 states during the next three months.

“Odell Brewing understands how important clean water is for community health and for great beer. We’re proud to be supporting non-profit partners like the Boise River Enhancement Network who preserve and maintain local rivers and waterways,” said Derek Struble of Odell Brewing.

The Boise River Enhancement Network is a local non-profit organization working cooperatively to improve the health of the Boise River from Lucky Peak Dam to the Snake River.
