Random Thoughts of a News and Sports Junkie: Get Ready For War!

Predicting the future is not my strength.  I am not clairvoyant.  My crystal ball is inoperable.  I don’t know anything about tea leaves nor do I drink tea.  Nevertheless, due to my job in news I am often asked about what I think is going to happen in the future.

It’s true I am well read, and do have a good deal of information at my fingertips.  What I see coming is not good, and I hope I’m wrong.

In the next year, I predict the U.S. will enter into a major military campaign. That is to say, a war is coming and I’m not talking about Iraq or Afghanistan where our country continues to fight terrorist forces. I don’t think that fight will be with Russia.  If I was going to bet on it, my money is on a fight with North Korea.

Considering the current tension between our two nations, this may not surprise a single person but I’ll give you a few reasons anyway.

First, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un acts like a petulant child.  You can count on him to thumb his nose an just about everyone who tries to tell him what to do.  I ask myself this question:  Is he the kind of leader who would back down from a fight if it looked like it was coming?  No, he would send his people into harms way without hesitation.

Second, President Trump likes to be a tough guy. The President is already ramping up the military, and has even moved an American fleet into a position to take the fight to North Korea if and when he feels like it.  And like Kim Jung-un, President Trump seems to me like the kind of guy who would not back down from a fight either.

Third, Japanese warships are joining US fleets in preparation of North Korean missile attacks.  The Japanese government is also getting it’s people ready. The prime minister’s office issued new “actions to protect yourself” guidelines this week, including for the first time instructions on how to respond if a North Korean ballistic missile is heading toward Japan.

Lastly, and this should not be underestimated, the infamous group of hackers known as Anonymous is urging people across the globe to “prepare” for the US and North Korea confrontation.

I know this much from my days on the school playground.  When two people don’t like each other and are looking for a fight, eventually they fight.
