Verizon, Boise State agree to improve cell service in Albertsons Stadium

Verizon and Boise State recently signed an agreement to improve cellular coverage in Albertsons Stadium.

Verizon will install a new cellular distributed antenna system (DAS) to provide data and cell coverage for the stadium’s events.

Verizon will also make the new system available as an option for other carriers to use, according to BSU. So, Bronco fans with different providers can have better cell service at football games and other events.

CBS2 reports that the first phase is expected to be finished before June 2020. This deal will also be the start of potentially adding more DAS to other areas on campus like ExtraMile Arena, the Central Quad and the Morrison Center.

The poor service has been a common complaint among fans for a long time. Sharing videos and pictures from games on social media is often a difficult task, and that can hurt the Bronco brand.

“Stadium events are very important to the University,” said Brian Bolt, Deputy CIO. “These large gatherings influence and enhance Boise State’s reputation, and the people we serve at these events expect technology to be consistent and reliable.”

BSU has also set up a website for people to report cell service issues on campus.
