Mayor Bieter calls for “immediate reset” on downtown library project

Poised for a runoff next month as he seeks reelection to an unprecedented fifth term, Mayor Dave Bieter announced Monday that he’s shifting gears on the main library project.

In a reversal from his previous position, Bieter now says he is recommending an “immediate reset,” giving direction to the Boise City Council to start over on the project.

The Idaho Press reports, the announcement comes after voters overwhelmingly supported a proposition aiming to force a vote on the library project — a proposition Bieter openly opposed.

Bieter will face Lauren McLean in a runoff after she won about 46% of the vote, while he won about 30%.
