Ada and Canyon counties saw higher voter turnout in the Nov. 5 election than in past city council and mayoral election years.
In Ada County, 33.4% of registered voters turned out. An even bigger portion of residents cast their ballots in Boise, Eagle and Star. All three cities saw percentages of registered voters topping 40%, with 40.1% in Boise, 42.1% in Eagle and 42.3% in Star.
Issues of growth topped the charts in all three cities, bringing out voters who ousted incumbents in both Eagle and Star and who sent Boise into a runoff to decide its next mayor because none of the seven candidates hit more than 50% of the vote.
The Idaho Press reports, turnout for these three cities was significantly higher than in previous municipal elections.
