State Department of Education releases fall Idaho Reading Indicator results

The State Department of Education released statewide preliminary results for the fall Idaho Reading Indicator.

The test looks at the reading skills of students kindergarten through third grade.

The Department of Education says, overall statewide performance shows 55 percent of students are at or above grade level, up from about 53 percent last fall.

However, the new numbers also show that fewer kindergartners are entering school reading ready.

Only 43 percent of kindergartners entered the classroom with the foundation reading skills they need.

That’s down from 45% last fall.
