Boise Police officer accused of rape

A Boise Police officer is accused of rape.

The Ada County Sheriff’s Office says Eric Simunich forced himself on the victim, whom he had met the day before, and had illegal sexual contact with her at a home in Eagle.

The investigation began after the victim called 911 on Monday morning.

He has been suspended pending the conclusion of the Ada County Sheriff’s Office criminal investigation and a BPD internal investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

CBS 2 reports that Simunich was booked into the Ada County Jail at noon on Wednesday after an arrest warrant was issued. He turned himself.

He’s scheduled to make his initial court appearance on Thursday.

Simunich has been a BPD officer for over 19 years and was assigned to the BPD motor unit. He also worked in the patrol unit.

The officer faces life in prison if convicted.
