Canyon County Commissioners discuss impact fees as way to help pay for new jail

Canyon County Commissioners are the latest elected officials in the Treasure Valley to discuss impact fees. In a meeting Friday, commissioners brought up the idea of using impact fees for a new jail.

In their second meeting with Galena Consulting, commissioners discussed Canyon County fire districts and Middleton Parks and Recreation impact fees and expressed interest in exploring how to use impact fees to help fund a county jail.

In May, Canyon County voters denied a fourth attempt at a bond request for a new jail.

The Idaho Press reports, on Friday, Commissioners Leslie Van Beek and Pam White said they would continue to analyze the impact fee report for Canyon County fire districts and Middleton Parks and Recreation impact fees.

At the end of the meeting, White said the county is interested in the possibility of impact fees for public safety.
