Bill to Add One More Judge to 4th District Bench Introduced in Committee

Boise (670 KBOI News) – As Southwest Idaho grows, the caseload of judges in 4th District Court is growing, too, but they’ve not gotten any new help since 2013.

A bill making its way to the Idaho House floor for debate would change that…Senate Bill 1043 was introduced into the Judiciary and Rule Committee.

Jason Spillman with the Idaho Administrative Office of the Courts, told the committee the growth of the court isn’t keeping up with the growth of the Valley…

“The 4th District is Ada, Elmore, Boise and Valley Counties,” said Spillman.  “Currently, it has 1 judges, this statute would amend that, up to 12.  Since the last time a district judge was added for this district, back in in 2013, Ada County in particular, has seen a rapid growth in population.”

And that has led to unworkable caseloads, Spillman said.

The Committee voted to send the bill to the Senate floor with a do-pass recommendation…Senator Scott Grow of Eagle will sponsor it on the floor.
