Legislature to FCC: Stop the Fake and Scam Calls

Boise (670 KBOI News) – A resolution calling on the FCC to do something about the fake and scam calls that bombard us all every day had no trouble sailing through both houses of the Idaho legislature, with bipartisan support.

House Joint Memorial 3, sponsored by Boise Representative John Gannon calls on the federal government to do something about the scam, phishing and telemarketing calls that harass us on a daily basis.

So why the feds? Senator Don Cheatham of Post Falls says we tried, but there’s only so much that can be done at the state level.

“This has exceeded our local and state efforts, ” said Cheatham.  “Part of the solution lies off shore, and we need help from our Federal Communications Commission, and other available federal resources to solve this problem.  We also understand that once this problem is solved, we need to address resilience, That is the ability to withstand repeated attacks.”

The bill passed unanimously on a voice vote, and is sent back to the House for final processing.
