Fulcher: Declaration of National emergency on Border Likely

Rep. Russ Fulcher (ID-1)

Washington DC (670 KBOI News) – February 15th is the deadline for Congressional Republicans and Democrats to come up with a compromise plan to fund border security, or face another so-called government shutdown.

While the media tout polls showing most people blame President Trump’s call for a border wall for the last shutdown, Idaho First District Congressman Russ Fulcher says that’s not what he’s seeing firsthand.

In fact, he says Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s own party is pushing her to quit blocking the wall.

“There are over 100 new freshmen Democrats in Congress.  Each one of them have districts that are intensely populated with federal employees, and yes, they do recognize there’s a problem on our Southern border,” said Fulcher.  “There is significant pressure and recognition that there’s a problem that needs to be dealt with.”

He says the situation on the Mexican border is a crisis, and every member of Congress knows that.

The President will likely have to declare a state of emergency to get funding for the wall, Fulcher said, and he would support that.
