Kinner sends letter to Ada County prosecutors

Ada County prosecutors are still waiting for permission from a judge to read the contents of an envelope they received Monday from Timmy Kinner Jr., who faces 13 charges, including first-degree murder, in connection with the June stabbing of nine refugees at a Boise apartment complex.

The Idaho Press reports, at Kinner’s most recent court hearing earlier this month, a judge ruled — at the request of Kinner’s defense team — police and prosecutors would not be allowed to speak with Kinner unless a defense attorney was also present.

Because of that, prosecutors wrote in court documents, they have not looked at the contents of the envelope, and have asked for a special court hearing during which the judge can decide if they are allowed to read whatever it contains.

A hearing is scheduled for attorneys to discuss the matter on Sept. 28.

Kinner still has a two-month trial scheduled to begin Jan. 3. His next public court appearance is scheduled for Dec. 13.
