Man arrested and charged with driving drunk and fleeing the scene of a crash

A man accused of driving drunk and fleeing the scene of a crash, leaving an injured pedestrian behind, was arrested.

James Wonacott contacted dispatch Sunday night around 10:30 p.m., about 20 minutes after emergency respondents began helping an injured pedestrian near the intersection of Southside Boulevard and Sparks Avenue.

Wonacott told dispatch he thought he may have hit something while driving on Southside Boulevard. Officers found Wonacott on East Greenhurst Road.

The victim was walking on the west side of the road when Wonacott left his lane of travel, drifted across the road and struck the man. The victim suffered lacerations to his head and lip, a fractured fibula and a broken foot.

According to the Idaho Press, Wonacott is charged with felony aggravated driving under the influence and leaving the scene of an accident.
