ACHD rejects AG’s ruling on Commissioner Jim Hansen’s open meetings violation

Emotions ran high Wednesday as the Ada County Highway District Commission decided to reject the Attorney General’s ruling on Commissioner Jim Hansen’s open meetings violation.

The commission’s public meeting room was packed with individuals there in support of Hansen, some who were later ejected from the meeting for unruly behavior.

The Idaho Press reports, the commission voted 2-1 to send a letter to the Attorney General’s Office rejecting the findings and asking that the office re-evaluate the violation and punitive action in response.

Commissioner Baker told the Idaho Press after the meeting that she believes Hansen’s email conversations regarding vehicle registration fees with other commissioners to be egregious violations of open meetings law.

The issue stems from a July 25 email sent by Hansen, in which he reached out to commissioners separately to discuss his conditions for supporting the raise in vehicle registration fees.
