KBOI ENJOYS 43 YEARS OF BRONCO FOOTBALL!

Boise State football debuts its 2018 football team this weekend and for the 43rd year, KBOI Radio will be on hand to bring you all of the play by play action for the 43rd year. It was my pleasure to broadcast the first 35 years of  Boise State College and Boise State University football. My first game came on September 15, 1973 in Moscow against the University of Idaho. KBOI took the broadcast rights from KIDO Radio and excitement ran high around the station as we packed up our painfully inadequate equipment and headed North.

Boise State was more than ready for the game as the Broncos blew away the Vandals 47-24. That season would see the Broncos go undefeated in the Big Sky Conference and lose a tight 38-34 game to Louisiana Tech in the second round of the NCAA division two playoffs. The Broncos loss in the Pioneer Bowl marked their first Bowl appearance. That early success set the table for years of excitement to come. The games that year averaged around 15,000 in attendance, but the excitement and local support was already building.

Throughout my 35 year tenure as Voice of the Broncos, the team moved from division two to division one aa, then to division one. The Broncos swept through several conferences, The Big Sky, The Big West, The Western Athletic and the Mountain West. Boise State has gone to the Fiesta Bowl on three occasions and won every time beating Oklahoma, TCU, and Arizona. The Oklahoma game is considered by many to be the greatest college football game ever played.

What does the new season have in store? You can find out right here on KBOI with five hours of pre game and two hours of post game surrounding our play by play broadcasts.

Marshall University, a respectable opponent

Marshall University, Friday night’s Boise State football opponent, is most famous for one thing: a plane crash that happened in 1970.
