Idaho Wildfire Update: Monday

 

Here is the latest on Fires burning in and around our area today.. (updated at 9:15am 8/20/18)

— The Rattlesnake Creek Fire is now 7,997 acres in size, with containment estimated at 28%. The Fire is burning on the West side of Highway 95 near mile marker 184; near Pollock. Hot and dry conditions and the possibility of thunderstorm activity will not help fire operations today. The biggest concern today could be gusty those winds we are expecting.

— The lightning caused Kiwah Fire is still burning and Fire managers estimate size at 15,437 acres. The fire is burning in the Middle Fork Ranger District and is being allowed to play its natural ecological role in the environment while providing for firefighter and public safety.

— The Public is invited to discuss the Goldstone and Beaver Creek Fires in a community meeting. Southwest Area Incident Management Team 4 will host a community meeting for the Goldstone and Beaver Creek Fires at 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday, August 21, at the Wisdom Community Building. The fire started burning in a high elevation basin near Goldstone Pass, located 18 miles south of Jackson, MT, 5 miles west of Reservoir Lake in the Park Creek drainage in the Bitterroot Mountains, on the Montana and Idaho state border.

— There is a fire burning to the south of Idaho in Nevada, that could blow smoke into our area – as the South Sugarloaf Fire 20 miles southwest of Owyhee, Nevada, and started over the weekend. That wildfire has now charred 35,000 acres with 20 percent containment. It is burning in grass, brush, and timber with extreme fire behavior.
