Millennials Aren’t Saving for Retirement…Or Are They?

Boise (670 KBOI News) – Millennials take a lot of guff from the older generations, who say they’re lazy, they have it too easy, and according to an article in the Washington Examiner, they don’t save for retirement.

The article notes 37% of Millennials aren’t saving a penny for retirement, but Brian Wiley, host of Idaho’s Money Show on 670 KBOI, says the the article is too hard on 20- and 30-somethings.

“$38 a month on coffee the average Millennial is spending,” said Wiley.  “$75 a month on alcohol, even so much to the point they’re spending money on marijuana ($39/month).  But when you look at the retirement savings, the average Millennial is saving $480 a month.”

He says a lot of older Americans didn’t save that much when they were in their 20s and 30s.

Other findings, Millennials spend $163 a month on eating out.
