Let’s catch you up on the fires currently burning in Idaho today…
— The Sharps Fire has grown over the weekend to over 63,901 acres burned 6 miles east of Bellevue, and is 57% contained. Over 500 firefighters are currently working on the fire, which is expected to be fully contained by next Sunday.
— A new fire started over the weekend South West of Salmon. The Rabbit Foot Fire was caused by lightning, and has now burned 2500 acres with no estimate of containment yet. Firefighters built a hand line to keep fire spread south of Singheiser Trail and north of Morgan Creek Summit and County Line Ridge.
— The Mesa Fire is still burning 4 miles south of Council, and has so ar burned 33,989 acres. Containment is estimated at 42%, as the fire consumes tall Grass, brush and timber. There are currently 531 personnel working this fire, with air support including, Helicopter and Super Scoopers providing critical water and support for ground resources.
— The lightning caused Kiwah Fire, is estimated at 6,250 acres, burning in fir, lodgepole, and spruce. The fire is located northwest of Indian Creek Guard Station on the south side of the Indian Creek drainage in the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness, in steep, inaccessible terrain. This fire is being allowed to burn, but some fire personnel are watching out for public safety.
