Dead cat linked to Plague

A cat has died and state health officials believe it likely had contact with a whistle pig that had the plague.

The Central District Health Department says the cat was being cared for by a family.

CBS -2-news reports, family members are now being treated with antibiotics as a precaution.

Earlier this year, a child in Elmore County became infected with plague, and then in June another cat became infected.

Both the child and pet cat received prompt medical treatment and made full recoveries. It is most likely the child contracted plague in Oregon but an exact source was not found.
