ITD Board Votes to Replace Bridge at Cloverdale Overpass

Boise (670 KBOI News) – It looks like the damaged bridge over I-84 at Cloverdale Road will be replaced, after all.

The Idaho Transportation Department Board voted to replace the entire bridge, instead of fixing the one section that was badly damaged in the deadly crash on June 16th.

But ITD spokesman Jake Melder says it will be an improvement over the current bridge.

“The Board voted to spend $6 to $8 million on actually demolishing the entire bridge and replacing it with a new bridge,” said Melder.  “The new bridge is going to include four travel lanes, instead of the current two, standard-sized shoulders, and sidewalks.”

They’ll meet with ACHD to work out the details of how the project will go forward…Melder says Cloverdale is the ACHD’s road, but the bridge belongs to ITD, so there has to be co-ordination.

Once work starts, Melder says it will take roughly a year to complete.
