Man arrested after running red light and jumping in canal to escape police

 

Boise Police arrested a man after they say he ran a red light causing a traffic crash and jumping into a canal to flee police Saturday morning.

Police were dispatched to a traffic crash involving two vehicles at Emerald St. and Milwaukee St. Police say the driver identified as Robbee Williams of Boise caused the crash and fled the scene with his passenger.

KBOI-2-TV reports, Witnesses were able to stop the passenger from running away. Police found Williams hiding behind a business.

Officers say they attempted to contact Williams and he ran and jumped into a canal. Officers then took Williams into custody.

Officers found narcotics and stolen property in the car Williams was driving. He was also under the influence of drugs at the time of the crash.

Williams was taken to the Ada County Jail and booked under three counts of felony possession of a controlled substance, misdemeanor possession of stolen property, misdemeanor accident – fail to stop, misdemeanor driving under the influence, misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, misdemeanor resisting or obstructing officers.
