TSA Reminds You to Properly Secure Your Firearm Before Getting to the Airport

Properly packed handgun

Boise (670 KBOI News) – The summer travel season is getting ready to explode, and we Idahoans love our guns. So the TSA is asking you to please remember how to properly secure the firearms you plan to take on the plane.

Lori Dankers with the TSA says over the last four years, there’s been an uptick in guns seized because they were improperly stored.

“There is a correct way to travel with your firearms, and that is to make sure your firearms is unloaded, that the magazine is removed, that you place it in a hard-sided case and lock it up, and declare it to the airline at the ticket counter, and place it right in your checked baggage,” said Dankers.  “Firearms are never allowed through the security checkpoint in your carry-on bag.”

You may remember we told you a couple of months ago about a firearms that was found to have been intentionally concealed in a checked bag?

Dankers says it was wrapped in aluminum foil, and stashed in a box of cookies.  Below are pictures of other firearms seized this year, after being improperly packed in checked baggage at the Boise and Idaho Falls airports.
