Local Women Arrested in D.C. Protests

Two Idaho women were arrested in Washington, D.C. Tuesday along with several activists from around the country who gathered to protest on behalf of immigration reform.

Estefania Mondragon of Nampa and Elizabeth Almanza of Boise were arrested during a United We Dream protest, along with a dozen other protesters.

The Idaho Press Tribunbe reports, they were released after being held for two or three hours.

Mondragon and Almanza are both organizers with PODER (Protecting our Dreams and Empowering Resilience) of Idaho, a community organization that advocates on behalf of undocumented people and immigrants who were protected from deportation under an Obama-era rule specific to immigrants brought into the country as children.
